USB Troubleshooting |
|
Problem |
Solution |
The New Hardware Wizard
didn't run, or driver installation did not occur when the device was connected to the PC.
The device may have been connected to the PC before a
product that supplies the driver files was installed, now the drivers won't install.
|
This can occur if the device is not found, or is
faulty. It can also occur if the device was connected to the PC
before a product that supplies the driver files was installed, or if a previous driver installation
attempt failed. Ensure that the device is
powered and working correctly.
Ensure that the
device is correctly connected to the PC.
If the device has been connected to the PC before,
and the driver installation failed, you may need to manually update the
driver for the USB device.
For Windows 95(B), Windows 98, Windows ME :
- Open Device Manager:
- Open the Control Panel (from the Start->Settings
menu)
- Double-click the "System" icon.
- Click the "Device Manager" tab
- Locate the MoTeC USB device in the list.
It will be under the "Other Devices" category, or the "Universal Serial
Bus Controllers" category.
- Select the device, then click the
"Properties" button
- On the "Driver" tab, click the "Update
Driver" button.
- The Update Device Driver Wizard will
run.
- Select "Automatic search for a better
driver (Recommended)" and click "Next".
- The driver should install correctly without any
further intervention.
If the wizard couldn't find the driver files, try updating the driver
again. This time select the "Specify the location of the driver
(Advanced)" option in the wizard. On the next page, click the "Specify a
location" option, and browse to:
C:\Program Files\MoTeC\Comms\1.0\USB
Drivers
If the driver still does not install correctly, please contact MoTeC Support.
For Windows 2000 and Windows XP :

|
Windows is reporting the device as
unrecognised. |
This may be due to a wiring problem:
- Check that the USB wires are connected to the
correct pins on the Autosport connector.
- Ensure that the wires cannot be pulled out of the
Autosport connector.
|
Windows has
found more than one matching driver for the device. Which one do I
select ? |
This may happen if one or
more MoTeC USB devices have been installed using drivers supplied with an
older version of a MoTeC product. Select the
driver located in:
C:\Program Files\MoTeC\Comms\1.0\USB
Drivers
|
A dialog is
displayed indicating that the driver has not passed Windows Logo testing. |
This is because the
supplied drivers have not been digitally signed by Microsoft.
- If a "Continue Anyway" button is available, click
it to proceed with the installation.
- On some systems there may be no "Continue Anyway"
button available. The dialog will indicate that the Hardware will
not be installed. This is because the system has been configured
to block installation of all unsigned drivers. In this case, click
"OK" to close the error dialog, then "Finish" to close the Wizard.
The drivers have not been installed.
You can reconfigure your system to allow installation of unsigned
drivers by following these steps (on Windows XP):
- Open the Control Panel (from the Start
menu)
- Double-click the "System" icon.
NOTE: On Windows XP the "System" icon is in the "Performance and
Maintenance" category.
- Click the "Hardware" tab
- Click the "Driver Signing" button.
- Select "Warn - Prompt me each time to
choose an action" and click "OK" to close the dialog
After you have performed the above steps,
